Dear Friend of the Arts
Friends of Lynn Travis Stender have asked that Women In The Visual Arts (WITVA) start a scholarship fund in her honor. She has chosen to use the donations for the High School students participating in our annual Spring Celebration of High School Art Exhibit showcasing their work, as well as a College Graduate Students Scholarship to further their studies.
Women in the Visual Arts is sponsoring the WITVA 16th ANNUAL SPRING CELEBRATION OF HIGH SCHOOL ART 2012. It is being HOSTED by SUGAR SAND PARK from February 24th through April 1st at the Community Center, 300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton, (561) 347-3900. In addition, Sugar Sand Park has many activities, to coincide with the art show to further participation by the teachers, students and their families. The Children’s Science Playground and the Explorium will be open. There are activities for all ages.
This show reflects the excellent work done in our Palm Beach County public high schools by talented students under the guidance of outstanding teachers. The WITVA ANNUAL SPRING CELEBRATION OF HIGH SCHOOL ART is known for its high rate of participation by the art teachers and their students, and is particularly respected for its educational scholarships and numerous incentive awards. Women In The Visual Arts was awarded the FLORIDA ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ANNUAL AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE. We are very proud to have received this prestigious award for our work with the high school students of Palm Beach County.
To continue to make the Lynn Travis Stender Scholarship Fund the outstanding success it was last year and to encourage art in our schools, we are asking for your contribution. Lynn, herself, will present the awards to the winning students. We are always thrilled to have her participate in this event.
Your support in this venture, which gives credit to the teaching of visual arts in the high schools, will enhance the success of this show. Please send your contribution, made payable to: WITVA - LYNN TRAVIS STENDER SCHOLARSHIP FUND, to WITVA c/o Phyllis C. Annunziato, 2628 NW 64th Place, Boca Raton, Florida 33496.
You are cordially invited to attend the show, the awards ceremony and reception at Sugar Sand Park on Sunday, April 1,2012. It will be held from 2:30 – 4 p.m. Please R.S.V.P. to Phyllis C. Annunziato, 561-997-6148.
Thank you for your much appreciated support of the Visual Arts.

WITVA College Scholarship
HIGH SCHOOL ART IS EXHIBITED
AT SUGAR SAND PARK, 300 Military Trail, Boca
Raton, FL. All of the High Schools of Palm
Beach County are invited to participate. We
receive entries from 16 or 17 schools each year.
This is the 14th Annual Exhibit. The art teachers choose the
best work in their class. WITVA’s jurying committee
selects the “best of the best”. The “Spring Celebration
of H.S. Art” committee solicits scholarships and awards
from the community. The Grand Prize of $500 cash is the
“WITVA Presidents Award”. Many of our members; Friends
of the Arts; Jerry’s ARTARAMA; Blick Art Materials;
Cheap Joe’s Art Supplies; Daler Rowney Art Supplies;
Golden Artist Colors. Inc.; Jack Richeson & Co. and
Utrecht Art Supplies donate either money or supplies to
this worthy program. These are awarded to the best work
in each category (2-dimensional, collage, photography,
jewelry, and sculpture). Since our program began in 1997
we have awarded over $75,000.00 to the art students of
Palm Beach County.
Each
participant receives a “CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION”
and the teachers receive a “CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION”
for their efforts on behalf of the students. This
program is very important to the students and teachers
of Palm Beach County. It gives them the opportunity to
exhibit the wonderful quality of the work and talent of
the participants, and to have their work shown to the
community for the month that it is on display at SUGAR
SAND PARK COMMUNITY CENTER.
At the end of the Exhibit WITVA and SUGAR SAND PARK join
together for a Reception and Awards Presentation for the
participants. This afternoon usually attracts an
audience of over 200 people. This event gives the
students, teachers and families a chance to enjoy the
park as well as the very exciting art.
